Last week, I announced that I would be stepping down as Councilmember for the 12th District at the end of the year. It was a very difficult decision to make, no less so because serving as your Councilmember has been one of the greatest honors of my life. However, we cannot always control when opportunity comes into our lives and it is rarely convenient when it does. It is only with great difficulty and because I have been presented with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that I leave office at this time.
While I will be moving on, I want to take this moment to assure you that the swift operation and responsive customer service you've come to expect from your Council Office will remain in place even after I have stepped down. I am grateful to have the best staff a Councilmember could ask for -- individuals who care deeply about their work and come together daily to collaborate as a team and solve problems for the constituents and communities they serve. They each will continue in their various capacities to serve you to the best of their abilities.
I have also ensured that special programs and initiatives begun under my tenure continue to benefit our community. Programs such as Neighborhoods FIRST will continue to deploy extra Sanitation Rapid Response and LAPD HOPE Officers to address issues related to the homelessness crisis to preserve quality of life. The Council District 12 Office will continue to support community events and have a presence at each Neighborhood Council to make sure that concerns are heard both within our office and at City Hall.
And while there will be more announcements regarding the future leadership and representation of the Council District, today I am proud of the things we have accomplished together and the challenges we have overcome. I was born and grew up here; I married the love of my life and raised a family here; and for the last 7 years, I have been blessed to serve the very communities that have made my life so rich and full of purpose.
No matter what the future holds and wherever I am, I will never forget the blessings this community has given me. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
