The arrival of Thanksgiving marks the beginning of the holiday season. It's a time when families of all kinds gather to share in the love, gratitude, and blessings life has bestowed. In doing so, we must recognize that there are many folks who enter the holiday season facing loss and terrible hardship.
Just in the past few weeks, thousands of California families have lost their homes due to fire. There are many more who have been living for some time, years even, without a home.
That is why it is important that even as we say thanks and enjoy the respite of a long holiday weekend, we must show our gratitude with more than words. At this moment, there are still firefighters from across the country who, instead of spending the holiday weekend with their families, have come to California to protect us from the fires still burning.
This Holiday weekend, I ask that we show our gratitude in supporting the men and women of our fire department. The Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation is a key organization in protecting and supporting those who have sacrificed so much on our behalf. Donations to the LAFD Foundation support firefighters and their families at a time when they have risked themselves for folks they have never met and who may never know the full debt of gratitude they owe.
Please take a moment on this holiday weekend to give back. You may donate to the LAFD Foundation here.
