Sherwood Forest

Originally part of Northridge, it is the neighborhood that is bordered by Nordhoff Street to the north, Balboa Boulevard to the east, Lindley Avenue to the west and the Southern Pacific railroad to the south. The community of nearly 5,000 people won the City Council’s official recognition in August of 2012 with an 11-0 vote.

History

The community of Sherwood Forest had existed, informally, for years. The green leafy area was originally walnut orchards which started to be converted into homes in the 1930s. It really started becoming populated during the 50s and 60s, like much of the West Valley.
