Honoring Latinas in STEM in City Council

October 5, 2018

This week, I had the honor of introducing three incredible young women before the City Council who are pioneering examples of Latinas entering the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. Their names are Victoria Cerillos, Saori Tejada, and Yadhira Garcia.

My colleague Nury Martinez held this ceremony to highlight the importance of representation -- so young women could see that no field is out of their reach.

Victoria Cerrillos recently competed during last year's Science Olympiad and wants to continue in the world of science after she graduates with a focus on forensics and herpetology.

Saori Tejada soared through the International Baccalaureate program and completed Kaiser Permanente’s LAUNCH Internship. She is now the General Meeting Coordinator for Medical Explorers at Kaiser and hopes to be an Emergency Physician.

Yadhira Garcia is also an IB chemistry student who has shown great interest and success in STEM over the last few years and hopes to have an impact on advancements in medicine.

Congratulations to these incredible young women. I look forwarding to seeing everything you accomplish in the future.
